Maharaj was initially invited to be a guest speaker to highlight education for the Edu Women in Leadership Conference next year. This led to her learning more about Rotary and eventually joining.

She has a PhD in Curriculum Studies and is a global ambassador for inclusive education, a senior academic and researcher with over three decades of experience.

“Through Rotary, I will be able to transfer my skill-set to the incoming band of leadership. My goal is to target the youth and novice teachers, offering development programmes at arms-reach. I hope to up-skill and retool both youth and teachers, taking education from good to great,” Maharaj said passionately.

She bore witness to one of Rotary’s success stories, its leadership programme, as future leader Scelo Luthuli shared with the club his growth, and the value he derived from the programme.
