Obituary: Shanay Kapp, the angel of Amanzimtoti

Her husband, David, thanked her for being a good mother, a wife, and a friend through good and bad times over the 24 years they spent together.

TRIBUTES poured in from all sides after news broke that Shanay Kapp, born on November 24, 1983, who was once a member of the Hearts of Toti NPO, died away on November 2.

Kapp died in the hospital, and the community shared highlights about her life and her charitable deeds. As a member of the Hearts of Toti, she ensured that numerous struggling families had access to decent food. Regular feeding of Jabulani Old Age Home was also one of the highlights of her good service with the Hearts of Toti.

In a statement, Jabulani’s executive committee said it was devastated by the news of her passing.

“She helped so many of us, nothing was ever too much trouble, she made many of us more comfortable by donating beds and all the in-between. Many went to bed with a full tummy because of her unwavering empathy toward the less fortunate. Shanay is leaving a huge gap in our community and is going to be sorely missed. From all of us at Jabulani, may you rest in peace and rise in Glory,” it read.

A memorial service was held at the Amanzimtoti Methodist Church on November 7, where her family shared glowing tributes with the congregants. Her husband, David, thanked her for being a good mother, a wife, and a friend through good and bad times over the 24 years they spent together.

“Thanks for being the person who enjoyed helping those in need. Those who just needed that push to get over the hill or guidance to find the bright light at the end of the tunnel. Shanay was and will be remembered by many as a blessing to them. I don’t like the word charity; I prefer a helping hand and a shoulder to cry on, and an ear to listen. Shanay could be that person who could arrange an October beer fest in June and with nuns as waitresses. Nike’s logo is Just Do It; Shanay’s should be Done It,” said David.

She also leaves behind her three children, Amy, Jason, and Courtney.
