Helping hands and caring hearts of Toti
It was a heartwarming day of community love and charity, with local NPO Hearts of Toti carrying out its monthly hamper donations.
THE SPIRIT of giving is all-year round for Hearts of Toti, with the NPO easing the burden of the downtrodden and poverty-stricken through its monthly food hamper handouts earlier this month.

Over 40 hampers were filled with basic necessities, frozen foods, toiletries, and non-perishables. Families the organisation assists were also free to take whatever donated clothing and household items they needed to raise their quality of life and restore their dignity.
Some of the families opened up about how they fell on hard times, explaining how easy it is to drop to rock-bottom and have to start again.
Jeanne Marie van Wyk is among the people that the NPO assists each month. She said, “I heard about Hearts of Toti and reached out to ask for help as we were struggling. I have been battling to find work in Amanzimtoti and have been jobless for two years. Without these hampers, I don’t think we would have survived.”
One of the dedicated volunteers, Angela Schorm, said that every volunteer of Hearts of Toti is passionate about helping people.
“It is not an easy calling but there are so many people struggling out there, without any helping hand. We try and share between organisations, we do house visits to check on families, whatever people need. We constantly spread awareness about the work Hearts of Toti does so that the community can hear our call for food, clothes, toiletries, toys,” said Schorm.
