According to SAWS, widespread showers and intense thunderstorms are expected across KwaZulu-Natal, with the eThekwini region likely to experience the brunt of the system. The storms may bring heavy downpours, excessive lightning, damaging winds and hail, all posing a serious threat to life, property and infrastructure.
Officials warn that the anticipated heavy rainfall may lead to flooding of roads, bridges and low-lying settlements, particularly in vulnerable and informal communities. Poor visibility, slippery roads and deteriorating driving conditions are expected to make travel hazardous.
The Municipality’s Disaster Management Directorate and emergency services have been placed on high alert and are fully activated to respond to any incidents.

Residents are advised to remain indoors, limit unnecessary travel and take precautions to safeguard their homes. Motorists are urged to reduce speed, keep a safe following distance and avoid crossing swollen rivers or streams.
“If motorists are trapped in floods, they are advised to leave their vehicle and move to higher ground,” it said in a statement.
The Municipality said it will continue to monitor the situation closely, with SAWS expected to provide further updates as conditions change.
For emergencies, residents can contact the Disaster Management Centre on 031 361 0000.
