Among those who heeded the call were members of the Amanzimtoti Cycling Club (ACC), who traded their bicycles for walking shoes to take part in the event at Amanzimtoti Sports Complex. ACC chairperson, Barry Walker, said the weather conditions could not have been better. After a week of intense heat, participants were treated to cool, comfortable weather on the day. A few light drops of rain greeted walkers at the start, but the skies soon cleared, making for pleasant conditions along the 5km route. Much of the course wound beneath shady trees, offering relief from the sun and adding to the relaxed atmosphere.

“It was about standing together, showing community pride, and proving that when people unite for a cause, even a simple walk can make a lasting difference,” said Walker.

The turnout reflected strong community spirit, with enthusiastic support from walkers of all ages. Organisers and participants alike agreed that the success of this year’s event lays a solid foundation for future growth, with plans already in place to make it a regular feature on the local calendar. All proceeds raised from the walk will be donated to Khanya Hospice, ensuring that the effort made on the day translates into meaningful support for those in need.

The Lions Club of Amanzimtoti said it was an incredible day.

“Seeing all the friendly faces and support was absolutely incredible,” said the Lions in a statement.
