1st Amanzimtoti Cubs honoured for top achievements
The Leaping Wolf is the highest achievement a Cub Scout can earn before transitioning to the Scout Troop.
IN A MILESTONE event for youth development, 1st Amanzimtoti Cubs celebrated the accomplishment of 13 members who earned their Leaping Wolf awards on February 22, coinciding with the global celebration of Baden-Powell Day.

The awards were presented by Beth Barkus, the regional team co-ordinator, during a formal ceremony that recognised the culmination of years of dedication, skill-building, and community service. The Leaping Wolf is the highest achievement a Cub Scout can earn before transitioning to the Scout Troop. It serves as a badge of honour, representing a Cub’s commitment to the Scout Promise and Law. Notably, it is the only Cub-tier insignia permitted to be worn on a Scout uniform, marking the bridge between childhood discovery and adolescent leadership.
To earn the badge, Cubs must complete a rigorous series of requirements before their 11th birthday, focusing on:
• Leadership and planning: Spearheading personal and group projects.
• Perseverance: Navigating challenges and problem-solving.
• Community impact: Demonstrating a spirit of service.
• Personal growth: Building self-confidence and teamwork.
Among the 13 recipients honoured for their “Do Your Best” attitude who were present to receive their awards were Logan Goldstone, Skhonza Belle, Mieke du Toit, Nathan Walters, Mckensie Carr-Hartley, Iyla Geldenhuys, and Eric Moore.
The 1st Amanzimtoti leaders said they were proud of their Cubs.
“This achievement represents the end of a dedicated trail and the beginning of a new adventure. We wish them every success as they proceed to Scouts,” they said.
