Doonside’s Ons Winkel celebrates major milestone

Among the challenges Ons Winkel has had to contend with include the Covid-19 lockdown, which came into effect only a month after the shop opened in February 2020.

THE Ons Winkel charity shop celebrated its sixth birthday on February 24, marking the milestone by looking back at how it has gone from strength to strength as it served the Doonside community.

Karen Duyvestyn, who owns the shop, said she is thankful for the support she has received from the community over the past six years.

“The journey so far has been good. There have been some ups and downs, but I would like to thank every person who has walked through these doors to buy from us,” said Duyvestyn.

One of the downs Ons Winkel contended with was the Covid-19 lockdown, which came into effect a month after the shop opened in February 2020.

Part of the proceeds raised through sales go towards Solidariteit Helpende Hand’s Study Fund, which provides interest-free study loans to needy students who qualify to study further but do not have the financial means to do so. The proceeds are also used for several other projects, such as children’s and senior organisations aimed at alleviating, ending, and preventing poverty.

Ons Winkel is situated at 25 Main Road and is open six days a week from 08:00 to 16:30 on weekdays and 08:00 to 12:00 on Saturdays. Donations of anything that can be sold in a charity shop can be dropped off at the shop, or Duyvestyn can be contacted on 084 798 6394 for more information.
