Lower Illovo rallies against Sakhithemba shelter [Pics]
Protestors gathered in their numbers in Lower Illovo to march against the City's Sakhithemba Homeless Shelter project.
THERE is strength in numbers and the Lower Illovo and surrounding community showed just that today as hundreds marched in peaceful protest of the City’s plans to house some 1200 homeless people at the Sakhithemba Homeless Shelter.

At the time of writing, protesters were awaiting a representative from eThekwini Municipality to accept a memorandum detailing the community’s demands and its hope that the City explores alternative locations that do not put residents, businesses and children at risk.
March convenor and provincial chairperson of the Progressive Civics Congress (PCC), Bonginkosi Dlamini, expressed his hope that the protest ensures the community’s collective voice is heard.
“We stand and march together to protect our neighbourhood, schools and community,” said Dlamini.
