The annual event is held on The Bluff to celebrate the late Ronnie van Rooyen, who contributed immensely to the sport. One of the greatest club administrators in the provincial club rugby history, Ronnie played a big role in amalgamating the Wanderers and Grosvenor Old Boys rugby clubs in the early 1980s.
One of the standout matches among the many games played by clubs from across KZN was the clash between the Harlequins and Amanzimtoti.
Players from both sides gave it their all and in the end drew a tie 7-7. Commenting on errors earlier in the game, Harlequins coach Dylan Barnard said it tested the players’ composure.
“The guys played a good game. There were some fumbles, but they were able to lock in and give it their all,” said Barnard.
