Amanzimtoti Lions donate to Khanya Hospice
After their fundraising walk for young cancer warriors, the Lions Club of Amanzimtoti donated a substantial amount to Khanya Hospice.
THE far-reaching impact of the Lions Club of Amanzimtoti’s Big Walk for Young Warriors in February bore fruit as the non-profit organisation donated R10 500 to fellow non-profit organisation, Khanya Hospice, on March 20.

The walk saw 1800 participants and the Lions raised R111 670, which according to club president Chris Stange, will benefit eight cancer organisations.
“A big thank you goes out to everyone that contributed in any way. We surely made an impact and will touch lives,” said Stange.
Khanya Hospice is one of the beneficiaries of the fundraiser. The organisation has served the community of Scottburgh and surrounding areas, providing free home-based palliative care to over 113 patients across a 100km radius.
Khanya Hospice manager, Victor Hariram, explained that it is now working on reopening its in-patient unit, which closed 18 years ago due to financial constraints. The facility is a necessity as it provides 24-hour care for patients in their final stages of illness.
It will host a Khanya Hospice Golf Day at Umdoni Park Golf Course in Pennington on July 5. The NPO encourages those interested to make a sponsorship, registering for 4-ball, sponsoring the greens and tees or sponsoring free accommodation vouchers and gifts to be used for prizes. The NPO is fully tax compliant and donations qualify for tax deduction.
