Did you know?
The Highland Gathering takes all its style cues from the Highland Games, a storied traditional event exemplary of Scottish culture. Pipers don the full Highland dress including an Argyll jacket, kilt, hose, sporran and bonnet. An Argyll jacket is shorter than a regular jacket and includes gauntlet cuffs, pocket flaps and a cutaway to show off a sporran and kilt. A sporran is an essentials pouch worn at the front of a kilt, which is a large garment resembling a wrap-around knee-length skirt, typically made of twill-woven worsted wool. Kilt tartans, or their patterns, symbolise family connections to Scotland or the Scottish clan system, with each clan or in the case of the Highland Gathering, having its own unique tartan.
