KwaMakhutha Work 4 A Living centre empowers community
A non-profit organisation puts the power in the hands of community members as it works to eradicate unemployment and empower a new workforce.
GIVING someone a fish feeds them for a day while teaching someone to fish feeds them for a lifetime. This is the philosophy behind non-profit organisation, Work 4 A Living (W4AL), which is already leaving a tangible mark on the Amanzimtoti and surrounding community.

Its training centre in KwaMakhutha is one of over 40 scattered across the country. The NPO’s focus lies in preparing people for the working world.
Facilitator, Norma Shore, said that unemployment, homelessness and begging runs rampant in the country and sitting idly by is not an option.
“Our classes cover job readiness and training. We prepare people for interviews, enhance their financial literacy and equip them with the skills and know-how to start small businesses. They walk away understanding the power of savings and investments,” said Shore.
W4AL started in 2007 and the NPO has done its homework, finding out from partnering companies what they are looking for in prospective employees.

“Our success speaks for itself, with over 50 000 students employed countrywide and over 4000 businesses started up,” said Shore.
