“Many community members are deeply concerned about reports that these dogs are being used to chase after, attack and kill cats and chickens belonging to community members. This has caused immense distress, suffering and concern throughout our neighbourhoods,” read the post.
Concerns were reported to Amanzimtoti SPCA inspector Luke Keyser.
“I would like to thank Luke from the SPCA for responding promptly and taking this matter seriously. I urge all residents to remain vigilant, if you see anyone engaging in activities involving the harming of animals, please report it immediately. Contact the SPCA, Metro Police and SAPS and provide any photos, videos, locations and times that may assist with investigations,” read a follow-up post.
The SPCA has committed to implementing measures aimed at addressing the issue, including increased monitoring and patrols in the affected areas. These efforts will help gather evidence, identify those responsible, and support further action against the perpetrators.

Pet Rescue Isipingo responds
Nirvana Ramlall, of non-profit animal rescue organisation Pet Rescue Isipingo, thanked residents for raising concerns regarding animal safety within the community.
“As an animal rescuer, I understand the distress and anger that reports of animal cruelty, missing pets, and attacks on vulnerable animals can cause. Every allegation of cruelty should be taken seriously and investigated through the appropriate channels. At the same time, it is important that any claims made against individuals are supported by credible evidence and handled by the relevant authorities to ensure a fair and lawful investigation. Community members who have witnessed incidents or who have photographs, videos, CCTV footage, veterinary reports, or other evidence are encouraged to report this information directly to SAPS and recognised animal welfare organisations,” said Ramlall.
She added that Pet Rescue Isipingo remains committed to the protection and welfare of all animals.
