Paws up in celebration for Class 17 of Edu Paw’s graduation
It was an epic graduation day for the young pet owners of Edu Paw's 17th class, and their dogs, full of laughter, celebration and goodies.
DOGGY tails wagged and young pet owners of Edu Paw’s 17th class flashed bright smiles as they recently celebrated their graduation.
The non-profit organisation runs pet care classes each week at the SPCA Amanzimtoti, placing emphasis on educating children in rural communities about how to train and care for their furry friends.

Edu Paw’s Charlotte Dougans offered heartfelt thanks to Sphelele Luthuli and her dedicated team of volunteers for all they accomplished with the learners and dogs of class 17.
“Your time, patience, dedication, and love made a lasting difference in the lives of both the children and their dogs. Further thanks goes to Robyn Dunbar, Irene Moussouris and Roxanne Ramlucken for spoiling the children and helping to make the celebration so special. Your generosity brought so much joy to the day. Each dog went home with a special hamper filled with goodies just for them, including dog brushes, treats, bowls, personalised dog biscuits, handmade tug toys and tinned food,” said Dougans.
In addition, learners received a framed photograph of themselves alongside their faithful furry companions in addition to a laminated copy of 5 Freedoms of Animal Welfare from the Hero in my Hood story and activity books as well as a certificate of completion for the classes.
The learners also enjoyed hot dogs, corn chips, a delicious graduation cake and other treats.

“It is such a joy to bless both the children and their dogs in this way and it is only possible because of the generosity of our wonderful supporters. Thank you for helping us make graduation day so memorable,” said Dougans.
What Edu Paw means to the learners
Luthuli explained that learners are equipped with knowledge of basic dog care, diseases, vaccination and symptoms of illness to watch out for. Harmful myths are debunked and false remedies are unlearned.
“They learn that dogs are family too, and on Saturday, the children and dogs get to have a safe space where they can learn together, socialise and have fun. Graduation means children will have the knowledge to apply and pass on to others and become good citizens who know the proper way to treat dogs,” said Luthuli.
She added that Edu Paw has done an amazing job over the past decade in helping manage the population of township dogs with its sterilisation programme.
