WOMEN across the community gathered at Pick n Pay Hypermarket Arbour Crossing on August 7 for an inspiring and uplifting Women’s Day programme that celebrated strength, well-being and safety.

The event, hosted by Pick n Pay Hypermarket Arbour Crossing, brought together guest speakers, good food and thoughtful gifts in an afternoon dedicated to honouring women and the vital roles they play at home, at work and in the community.

Kingsburgh Child and Family Welfare social worker, Sandra Govender, opened the programme with an inspiring message on the value of a woman. Using the simple analogy of a R20 note, she reminded the audience that a woman’s worth does not decrease no matter how she is treated, how many times she is passed from hand to hand, or how worn she may feel. “Like that R20, you remain valuable. Your purpose does not change,” said Govender.

Amanzimtoti Trauma Unit social worker Anita Makholati centred her talk on mental health for women, focusing on practical coping strategies, ways to recognise signs of burnout and the importance of asking for help. Her talk encouraged women to prioritise self-care and to create support networks so no one has to carry their burdens alone.

Amanzimtoti police spokesperson Captain Charlene Petersen addressed the group with solid advice on personal safety, community awareness and resources available to women. She urged women to trust their instincts, stay connected and equipped them with the know-how to access help when needed.

Organiser, Loshnee Sewnath, sincerely thanked guest speakers for their time, wisdom and inspiring words. “We truly appreciate their valuable message shared amongst our customers and staff,” said Sewnath.

Beyond the talks, the day was made all the more special with beautiful hand-picked gifts for attendees and a spread of delicious eats.

“We thank Pick n Pay Hypermarket Arbour Crossing for their initiative, their generosity, and for creating a space where women could learn, connect and be reminded of their value. It was more than an event, it was a reminder that when we uplift women, we uplift the whole community,” concluded Govender.
