HUNDREDS of tiny tots attending early childhood development centres (ECDs) in the Amanzimtoti area are enjoying a warmer winter after a generous donation through the FirstRand Volunteers programme.

The initiative saw 234 blankets and an equal number of crocheted beanies and scarves distributed to several ECD centres partnering with The Domino Foundation. Programme representative Claudia Alexander said the initiative encourages FNB employees to make a meaningful difference by volunteering their time and supporting organisations through matched funding.

One of the benefiting ECDs was Happy Day Crèche Empusheni in Umbumbulu.

Having partnered with Domino for several years, volunteers recognised the growing needs of preschool children attending the NPO’s 31 centres, which collectively care for 1 447 children. Residents of an old-age home in Athlone Park crocheted the beanies and scarves, while the blankets were supplied through the volunteer programme.

Domino nutrition programme team leader Cheryl Dann thanked the donors, saying the preschool “mamas” were delighted and grateful. She encouraged businesses, organisations and individuals to help provide winter warmth for the remaining children still in need.
