Gifts of the festive season for Jabulani pensioners
To bring holiday cheer for pensioners at the Jabulani Home for the Aged in Amanzimtoti, a resident has started a gift voucher drive.
REALITY can be a bitter pill to swallow for pensioners at Jabulani, The Kingsburgh Welfare Organisation for the Aged, however, one resident is hoping to bring about some welcome sweetness and much-needed Christmas cheer.

Jabulani’s Lesly Meyer has put together the Jabulani Christmas Voucher Project and is humbly asking the community to help gift each resident with a Checkers gift voucher for the fast-approaching festive season.
“How does an older person survive on R2400 a month. At Jabulani, this is the reality for many of our residents. Their SASSA pension is R2400. From that, rent, electricity, water levy and a funeral policy must be paid. What is left is between R800 and R1000 to live on for the entire month,” said Meyer.
She added that from there, the elderly residents have to purchase groceries, toiletries, medication, pay for transport and battle to replace essentials when they break.
“We are blessed with a wonderful community who helps us throughout the year with different needs, and we are always deeply grateful for that kindness and support. For many, the SASSA pension is barely enough to survive on, let alone celebrate. Many of our residents don’t have family to assist them and will spend the holidays alone. It would mean the world to be able to buy something special for Christmas,” said Meyer.
If you are able to help, contact Lesly Meyer on 084 507 1912 and she will allocate a resident and flat number for every voucher received.
