SPAR Superstar winner plans to give R5 000 voucher to community [Video]

The winner established a non-profit organisation, which she uses to give back to needy children and families.

ATHLONE Park Primary School learner Nqobile Radebe says she feels honoured after being announced as the overall winner (Primary school) in the KwaZulu-Natal SPAR Superstar competition.

Radebe was all smiles as she collected her prize, a R5 000 voucher from the SPAR management at the school on Thursday last week (December 7). The Grade Four learner said she plans to use her voucher to give back to the community.

“Firstly, I would like to thank SPAR – for choosing me as the overall winner in primary schools – and those who voted for me. I will utilise my voucher to assist needy children. I have decided to buy school uniforms for impoverished children in the community and also use the voucher for my Peanut Butter Campaign, which brings a smile to needy children and learners in the local schools,” she said.

Besides being smart at school, Nqobile also excels in modelling since she has won many beauty competitions. The learner is also known for protecting herself and her peers from the abusers in the school. In her first year at the school, Nqobile managed to protect herself from the known bully by reporting her incident to the teachers. This learner recently established a non-profit organisation (NPO) called Smile of a Child, which she uses to donate peanut butter and various gifts to local children.

School principal John Vorster said he was delighted and proud of his learner after winning the overall SPAR competition. “I am exceptionally proud of her and the great difference she is making in the community through her campaigns. I believe that she has received the strength to go far with her work of changing the community for the better,” the principal said. Vorster said he was pleased with seeing his learners doing well in various competitions.

Nicole Bérichon, business manager at Caxton Community Newspapers Durban, lauded SPAR KZN for supporting the competition. “On behalf of Caxton Local Media, I would like to thank SPAR for their support. With their help, we published the superstars every month. If it was not for SPAR, we would not have published these amazing superstars that we have in our communities. Make sure that the school nominates your child, and we love showcasing what the superstars are made of,” she said. Berichon added that the SPAR Superstar competition was a way to give children, like Nqobile, a platform to shine.

Nozipho Mkhize, advertising and sponsorship manager at SPAR KwaZulu-Natal, applauded Nqobile for winning the competition. “Nqobile is doing amazing work at her young age in the school and community. We are proud to present her with this R5 000 voucher. I was impressed by the fact that she protects her peers from the bullies in the school, and she also established a non-profit organisation, which she uses to give back to needy children and families,” said Nozipho.

She said they are committed to inspiring and creating a great platform for children to realise their dreams. Nozipho thanked the great sixth-year partnership with Caxton Local Media. “We promise that we are going to do more amazing things next year. It has been a wonderful six-year partnership, and from next year, we are going from strength to strength. Look out for the new things we are going to do next year,” she concluded.
