Havoc at Japanese Gardens

Young children run around with sticks, trying to kill the Egyptian geese, which recently had chicks who cannot fly.

EDITOR – This is a complaint about the destruction of the park in Fynn Road, Amanzimtoti.

I reside in The Gardens, a complex behind the Japanese Gardens in Fynn Road and I have noted and been informed of the following issues:

  • Dogs are running around the park without being on a leash.
  • Young children run around with sticks, trying to kill the Egyptian gees, which recently had chicks who cannot fly.
  • The same youngsters swim in the dams unattended. One of the children drowned some time last year or the year before.
  • They use buckets and catch all the fish.

All of the above instances are against the rules as indicated on a massive notice board as one enters the park. This should be made public so that others who care as well can assist in preventing these things from happening.

We all want the birds and fish to breed so people can enjoy the park with its wildlife, but it is being destroyed by people who don’t seem to care.

Apparently there is a person who is supposed to ensure that the rules are obeyed, but this is not done.
