EDITOR – Firstly, we wish the good people of Amanzimtoti a prosperous and healthy New Year.
Unfortunately, the year started tragically for the colony cats of Pipeline Beach.
A little black hen joined the colony of cats at Pipeline Beach about a year ago. We loved her. Then, a rooster (and a handsome fellow at that), joined our colony after escaping being killed in a ritual. We were all happy. Early in January, the little hen disappeared. We were concerned but then shortly afterwards she reappeared with eight beautiful chicks. We carried on feeding and loving them all as usual.
On Sunday, 14 January she didn’t come to breakfast. Only four of her chicks and the rooster appeared. We searched for the little hen and the other chicks. We then discovered the hen. Her head was savagely pulled off her body. What a barbaric, cruel way to die. She was such an excellent mother.
We also discovered the bodies of the missing four chicks. Now the rooster has taken over the duties of the mom. Unfortunately the same fate awaits them.
We appeal to anyone who is willing to adopt this precious little family, to make contact. We unfortunately cannot take them in as we live in a complex that is not pet friendly.
