Cardinals make it a 3 in a row win at home

Cardinals shut the door early on Orioles Expurts, capturing a 15-7 victory.

CARDINALS Baseball Club made it a three-in-a-row win at home on Sunday.

It started with the promo side taking on Orioles in the morning.

Cardinals shut the door early on Orioles Expurts, capturing a 15-7 victory. Fifteen runs were scored in the first three innings, which assured the win early.

The batting panned out as follows: Ground out by Ray Merrick during the first inning and an RBI single by Reece Ackermann, an error, a two-run double by Keith Dempsey, RBI double by Trevor Campbell, and an RBI double by Ray in the second inning helped the promo Cardinals put some early runs on the board. Rob Dos Santos racked up two RBIs on two hits and also doubled in the third inning.

Marcel van der Heever racked up two RBIs on two hits for Orioles Expurts. He singled in the first inning and doubled in the fourth inning.

Melanie Baker got the win for the promo Cardinals, despite allowing seven runs over five innings. Melanie struck out six, walked three and gave up 12 hits.

Cardinals hammered the Orioles Expurts pitching, as six hitters had a field day, combining for 11 hits, nine RBIs and 10 runs scored.

Dicky Moolman was charged with the loss. He allowed 15 runs in four innings, walked one and struck out three.

Cardinals’ offence proved too much for the Orioles Expurts with the final score ending 15-7. Mare of the match was difficult to hand out as everyone played their part in securing the win, however all agreed that Ray Merrick was the likely candidate for his poor coaching on third base, causing Reece Ackerman to get picked off. Man of the match was Ferdi Petzer who took up the challenge and played catch for one frame and still managed a good batting performance .

Then Cardinals major B side played Westville at home and maintained their unbeaten record in the Grand Challenge for the 2013/14 season with a 23-3 victory.

Ryan Loxton started off the mound for the second time this season, managing four strike-outs. He also assisted with an out to Robert Ackermann at first base and tagged a runner stealing from first base. Jonno Verral came onto relieve Ryan for his debut on the plate and got two strike outs.

Other outstanding performances in the field were made by Melanie Baker, who was helping out from the promotional side with setting up a run-out at short stop with a runner stealing from second to third base. Robert also took three catches at first base. Brenden Visser also made a catch at centre field and Beven Merrick tagged a runner trying to get home.

Runs were scored by Melanie (2), Kyle Hartzenberg (3), Beven (3), Robert (3), Jonno (4), Ryan (1), Brenden (3) and Reece Ackermann (3).

Finally the Major A side played Cubs and won 6-4, which was quite remarkable considering that a few key players were not available and their positions had to be filled by Major B players.

Cardinals wishes Duane Bardenhorst a speedy recovery and everyone hopes to see him back at the field soon.

The next home game is scheduled for Sunday, 24 November. The first game starts at 8.30am (promo), then 11am (major B) followed by the major A game at 2.30pm.
