CONGRATULATIONS to Barbara Beamson and Willem Pelser from Toti Bowls Club on qualifying for the National Singles Championships in Johannesburg later this year.
Well done on your selection and good bowling to both of you.
Novices Tokkie and Kokkie de Kock have also been doing well in the Port Natal Novice Singles. Kokkie is through to the third round of the men’s novice singles, while his wife, Tokkie is through to the semi-finals of the women’s competition. Well done and good luck for the next round.
At club level Val de Kok and Jane Coetzee were successful in their round of the women’s drawn pairs against Amanda Ninow and Lys McDonald, and in the men’s nominated trips Ian Crouch’s team of Lofty van Tonder and Ray Robinson beat Adie Fuller, Alf Bingham and Andrew Pearce.
Six games in the men’s open singles were played this week. Mike Pitchers, who played two rounds on the same day and won both of them, defeated Archie Walker and Barry Buckland. Greg McLeod won his game against Ian Mills, Glen Scorgie beat Peter Labuschagne, Neville Roscoe lost to John Mitchley, and Alec Stirzaker succeeded against Trevor Dempsey.
Enthusiastic members ignored the humidity to play the monthly mutton competition on Sunday. Winners of the women’s game were Amanda Ninow, Betty Sawyer, Nina Perry and Trudy Hill.
