ABC hosts Oppenheimer mixed pairs

IN the first mixed 2-4-2 of 2014 at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC), the winners were Les John and Saro Govender, and the runners-up were Ian and Marion Crouch.
The first session went to Trevor Dempsey and birthday girl Val de Kok, and the second session to Dave Kemp and Jacqui Fouché.
Thanks to Allen Hawkins for sponsorship for this competition. Well done to Vince Marriot on winning the voucher draw, and to Liz Morgan-Davies who won the 100 board. Unfortunately there was no TGIF draw because of illness, but the attendance prize will go up next week to R600.
In the men’s drawn pairs, Neville Roscoe and Ben Venter just pipped Mike Groom and Ken Leech at the post in an extra end, and Neil Oberholzer and Pete Shepard beat Ian Crouch and Kokkie de Kock. In the mixed pairs, Doug Joubert and Elsie Walker had a good win over Ian and Leonie Mills.

Thanks to Jerry Gertzen for the prizes for the first session, which was won by Jeanne Alexander, Heather Brown, Jane Coetzee and Margaret van Belkum. The second session was won by Marion Crouch, Doreen Salmond, Joan van Rensburg and Adrienne Robbins. Jenny Delport won the 100 board.
On Saturday, the men’s league results were as follows: First division Toti lost to Dbn 0-7; second division Toti lost to Parkhill 2-5; third division Toti lost to Stella Park 0-7; fifth division Toti beat Hillcrest 4-1; sixth division Toti E beat Ridley Park 5-0 and Toti F lost to Gillits 1-4; and eighth division Toti drew with Stamford Hill with two and a half points each.
Several women’s competitions are carded for Saturday, 5 April, including the drawn fours with Doreen Salmond and team against Liz Morgan-Davies and team, as well as drawn pairs between Julie Sutherland and Jacqui Fouché versus Robyn Hutton and Lee Jordan. For other carded games on that day, check the board. Any teams able to play during the week before Saturday, check on availability of rinks with the greenkeeper or a committee member, or text the competition secretary.
The club has 26 teams representing ABC in the Oppenheimer mixed pairs on Sunday, 6 April, with a mix of seasoned players and novices. Good bowling to all. ABC is a proud sponsor of this competition, and will be hosting games right until the final. Any players or non-bowlers wishing to watch exciting bowls, can relax on the club’s newly extended balcony.
Note there are only three more spots for the fun Easter tournament taking place on Saturday and Sunday, 19 and 20 April. The list is on the board with all details.
