Comrades founder’s kin in Toti to fundraise
Get your car washed and help a Comrades Marathon runner raise funds for charity.
Anthony Clapham, the great-great-grandson of Comrades Marathon founder, Vic Clapham will tackle this year’s down run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban to raise funds for Community Chest.
He initially needs to raise R5,000 to be included in a special seeding batch at the start of the world’s oldest and largest ultramarathon. To help him do that, Sparkling Auto car wash at Arbour Crossing will donate 33% of its turnover on Sunday, 6 April, from 8am to 3pm.
“We urge the Toti public to support us on that day, which will in turn support Anthony and Community Chest,” said owner, Kamlesh Ranchhod.
This is the third year Anthony will run the route to raise funds for the organisation. He is the only member of his family to finish the gruelling 90km race.
“I am part of Red Sock Friday, which is a movement dedicated to celebrating life and being positive,” said Anthony, who hails from Durban. “Every Friday morning we run on the Durban beachfront promenade.
I saw the Red Sock Friday logo on the Community Chest website and as I was already a part of it, I decided to run the Comrades to raise funds for it. I hope the Toti public come out in their numbers to support us.”
Long and short red socks will be on sale at the car wash on the Sunday, at a cost of R65 each. A donation of R25 goes towards Community Chest.
