Rescue service co-ordination earns Ross an LSA president’s award
AMANZIMTOTI'S James Ross has been awarded Lifesaving South Africa's (LSA) coveted president's award.
Ross received the award from LSA president, Dylan Tommy at a function in Durban last week.
The president’s award goes to a member for most outstanding achievement in recognition of exceptional support to the lifeguarding service of LSA.
James does media presentations for LSA on radio and television, and his interviews highlight the community services of LSA’s voluntary lifeguards and gives water safety tips for people in or near water.
Mr Tommy hailed Ross’ “skilled rescue service co-ordination (which) quietly worked to stem the increase in drownings”. In addition, his media presentations ably and positively represented and exposed Lifesaving South Africa throughout the country”.
James Ross attained his surf lifesaving proficiency award 29 years ago at Amanzimtoti Surf Lifesaving Club and is currently the club’s nipper officer, running the fun-in-the-sun section for eight to 14-year-olds.
