BY popular demand, the ever-popular Barflies social bowls makes a comeback this Sunday, 11 January at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club.
Barflies bowls originated at Umbogintwini Bowling Club many years ago and became a much anticipated, fun outing for bowlers and non-bowlers alike. When Umbogintwini sadly closed down some two years ago, the bulk of the members joined Amanzimtoti, whose committee have been inundated ever since with requests to reinstate barflies bowls. Finally some gaps in the busy 2015 calendar have been created and barflies bowls will make its debut at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club on Sunday.
For the uninitiated, this is a hugely social event. Dress is casual with flat shoes and the emphasis is on fun. Visitors are welcome as are beginners, who will be lent bowls and given a few pointers. Don’t worry if you have never bowled before – there will be a number of beginners who are helped along by the regular bowlers. Registration is from 8am and the cost for a full morning’s entertainment is R20. Food will be available and the bar will be well stocked as most regular bowlers will testify that playing bowls is extremely thirsty work.
