Golfers start new year on a high
Best gross on the day went to Sadeak Khader on 71.
AT the end of last year, Operation Bobbi Bear asked the community for help, and the members of Amanzimtoti Golf Club put their hands up to answer that call.
As most people know Bobbi Bear is an NGO which cares for children who are victims of sexual abuse.
Jackie Branfield, founder of Bobbi Bear, visited the club and spoke to the members about the work that is being done to help the children, and it was a subdued audience who heard her talk.
It is heartening to know that people do care, and AGC’s members responded with generosity. In total R10,140 in cash was handed over to Bobbi Bear, along with a mountain of presents for Operation Bobbi Bear to hand out to children in need, all of which was donated by the club’s amazing members.
So that was how 2014 drew to a close, and 2015 has started off with wonderful news as well.
This is the club’s official centenary year, and there will be many celebrations to mark the event, so keep in touch with the club programme to ensure you don’t miss out.
The sewerage in the river is abating by the day, due to the repair of the broken pipes and the efforts put in to aerate the water, which is ongoing. The club’s thanks go to the municipality for their help in sorting out the problem, albeit after some denial and heel-dragging.
To the players who supported the competitions right through to the end of last year, thank you. Results will not be published as space is limited, but the club acknowledges and appreciates the support.
On Saturday the men played the first monthly mug of the year, contested by 57 players. The A division was won by Faraan Khader on 68 nett, beating his father Sadeak into second place on 69 nett. The B division spoils went to Cecil Heydenrych with 68 nett, with Ronnie Nair following him on 70 nett. The C division was won by Cecil Passmore on 71 nett, with Buff Berry taking second place on 72 nett.
Best gross on the day went to Sadeak Khader on 71, Cecil Heydenrych with 78 and Cecil Passmore on 89 over the three divisions. Best nett over all the divisions went to Faraan, followed by Cecil H and Sadeak. The two club prizes were won by Wimpie Nel on the seventh and Faraan Khader on the 17th. Neither the jackpot nor the attendance prizes were won so these carry over to next weekend.
The women played their first KZNLGA medal and putts for the year, and Thanda Zama took the win for the silver division with 71 nett, followed by Gill Symons on 75 nett. The bronze division win went to Lass Davis on 72 nett, with Estelle Binnekade in second place on 75 nett.
Least putts on the day were shared by Thanda Zama and Gill Symons, both with 30 putts. Thanda was nearest the pin on the fourth hole, and Gill had a two club on the fourth hole.
