Countdown to Dick King Marathon begins
Whether you’re a novice, a pro or simply a spectator, this marathon has something spectacular to offer.

THERE are only a few days left to get entries in for the popular Dick King Marathon, scheduled to take place on March 29.
The competition, which was first held almost four decades ago, attracts entrants from across the province.
Whether you’re a novice, a pro or simply a spectator, this marathon has something spectacular to offer. There’s both a 15-kilometre walk and a 21-kilometre run alongside the Indian Ocean in the Warner Beach area.
It’s a picturesque route, sprinkled with its share of challenges to really put those calf muscles to the test – all while enjoying the refreshing sea breeze of the South Coast.
And speaking of challenges – the 1987 women’s record time of 1.18.15 has yet to be beaten. The fastest men’s time stands at 1.05.35 – a record last achieved in 2010.
The Dick King Marathon is hosted annually by Toti Athletics Club. Chairman, Desmond Van Der Merwe has guaranteed a fun-filled day. “The highlights can differ, but the biggest is to break the holding record time for top runners. Ending on the beach is also really cool,” he said. “Speed-walking is my passion and, having been chairman for the past five years running, hosting a successful race is important to both me and the athletes. It will be a race Toti AC can be very proud of.”
The club has ensured that runners will be completely safe on the day. A rescue bus and ambulance will be available throughout the race, and chiropractors will be on hand at the end to relieve any aches and pains athletes may have.
Monetary prizes will be awarded to the winners and runners-up in the various categories, and the first 1,000 participants will get a stylish orange moisture management T-shirt and lucky prizes from Spur.
To enter, visit the Toti AC webpage at www.totiac.co.za. Runners can also enter via fax and deposit the money into the club’s bank account. Remember, no entries will be allowed on race day.
