Sterling efforts set Warnadoone SLC abuzz

The nipper prize-giving will be at the end of the month.

WARNADOONE Lifesaving Club congratulates all the members who participated in the 2015 SA Lifesaving championships held at Suncoast Pirates Club recently.

The seniors did very well, coming eighth out of 25 clubs.

There were some great results, with Joel Segal winning a silver medal for the board race, Landon Kruger for silver in the beach sprints and a brilliant second from our beach relay team of Johno Mac, Travis Slier and the Kruger brothers. Special mention must be made of Keagan Kruger, Landon Kruger and Tyrone Pontes for making the Natal provincial team.

The juniors did well, with Tyrone Pontes and Dana Erasmus notching up some sterling results.

The masters did equally well, dispatching a total of 19 medals overall. These are longstanding members and some have been with Warnadoone since the 1960’s and are still active today.

The nippers travelled to the Cape for the SA nipper competition and earned themselves 13th position overall. Leith Hair got first body board, Kyle Pottingger a second in long run, Kyle Coetzee got a fifth in surf swim and Christopher Henwood got a fourth in long run. The nipper prize-giving will be at the end of the month.

Sinaed Carson and Adrian Dickerson excelled themselves by making the Natal provincial team. This Natal nippers team won the SA inter provincial event. This has not been accomplished for many years.

Warnadoone is starting a new lifesaving course. Fourteen-years-olds can sign up for a junior lifeguard award and over 16s can do a lifeguard award. This is an accredited, internationally recognised certificate and a great asset to have. Candidates are trained in first aid, CPR and the life skills needed to prevent and rescue potential drowning victims. Anyone wanting to join up should contact Mabs Kruger on 083-274-8484 for all the details.
