Despite the weather, the performances of the Amanzimtoti Athletics Club juniors were red-hot.
Hlengiwe Zuma and Lee-anne Blake ran away from their opposition by 1min20sec and 2min30sec respectively to win gold and KZN titles in the girls 17 and girls 14 events.
This is Lee-anne’s 4th KZN title on the track and cross-country in 2015, and she repeats the double titles in the provincial federation and schools cross-country championships that she also achieved in 2014. Amanzimtoti Athletics Club juniors have now won a total of eight KZN titles on track and cross-country this year.
Taking their opportunity in the absence of some districts which did not arrive for the schools championships, three other junior club members also achieved KZN cross-country colours for the first time, by finishing in the top six in their events. They were Nathan Haylock, who won silver for his second position and Kyle Pottinger who won bronze for his third position in the boys 12 and boys 10 events respectively, and Elli Barnett who achieved 6th position in the girls 13 event.
