ACC to raise bat against touring Indian team

The club requests that all current junior members contact Phillipa Carson to confirm if they will be available for the coming season.

CRICKET returns to the oval at Hutchison Park this Sunday with a game against a young touring team from India.

Although Amanzimtoti Cricket Club is still three months away from the official start of the season, the club could not resist the opportunity to play against this highly talented young team who are making a name for themselves in Indian cricket.

The Toti team for Sunday will be a combined first and second team eleven, featuring some of the younger players who showed so much talent over the last season. ACC invites all supporters and all cricket enthusiasts to go down and enjoy the games with them. There will be a second game on Tuesday, also at the Oval against the Regional Performance Centre Academy XI, which will feature some of the club’s promising young local talent.

For those who don’t yet know, the vibe at Lords and Legends is always good, and the Oval has several quiet shady spots where one can relax and watch the cricket, bird life or even the odd cow grazing in the tranquil surroundings. The game can also be viewed from the veranda at Lords and Legends where one can listen to live music while enjoying good food and beverages.

The club again appeals to all women who would like to play cricket in the women’s Sunday league, to contact either Pieter Venter on 079-777-5810 or Rex Hindman on 072-501-8363. The club will also require the services of a women’s coach to take charge of the team. A few applications have already been received but, as this is an entirely new venture for the club, it is determined to get it right from the start. Anyone who is interested in either playing or coaching, now is the perfect opportunity. The Union is busy getting the fixtures arranged for the coming season, so the club does not have much time in which to see if it will be in a position to field a women’s team. It therefore requests that all interested parties make contact as soon as possible.

Junior pre-season training will start on Monday, 15 August. The club requests that all current junior members contact Phillipa Carson to confirm if they will be available for the coming season. Senior pre-season coaching will start on 19 July. All current senior players should let Rex or Pieter know if they will participate in the coming season.

The AGM is done and dusted – the turnout was poor, and not what the club had hoped for. There were however enough interested members and junior parents present to select what appears to be a strong and well-balanced committee. They are: Chairman Rex Hindman, vice chairman Dean Carson, club secretary Phillipa Carson, media liaison Paul Russell, development manager Pieter Venter, fundraising manager Jacques de Coning and finance officer Tina Hindman, ably assisted by Lumenrock Financial Management Consultants again looking after the finances. Jacques will head up the fundraising sub-committee, and Pieter will do the same for the playing affairs sub-committee.

Toti Rugby and Cricket have joined forces with Mark White Nissan to host a golf day at Toti Golf Club on Sunday, 5 August. This promises to be a memorable event that will financially benefit both rugby and cricket. If you are able to support this venture by entering a fourball to play, by sponsoring a hole or by donating prizes, contact Carol Matthews at Mark White Nissan via email at carol@mwntoti.co.za.
