ACC hosts inaugural junior six-a-side tourney
The teams will be made up mostly of local Toti juniors; as well as an invitational side for each age group.

AMANZIMTOTI Cricket Club (ACC) is pleased to host its inaugural ‘Fish Eagle junior sixes’ tournament.
This will be an all-day affair on Saturday, 17 September at the Hutchison Park sports grounds, home of Toti cricket.
ACC will host four under 11 sides, four under 13 sides and three under 15 sides, as well as two teams of aspirant U11s between the ages of seven and 10. The tournament will be a round-robin format in the various age groups, with teams rotating between the three fields at the complex to give everyone a turn on the main oval. Each of the age group finals will be decided on the main oval, and parents are encouraged to stay on and watch the lads play from the comfort of the verandah at Lords, or indeed from any of the shady areas around the various fileds.
The teams will be made up mostly of local Toti juniors; as well as an invitational side for each age group. There will be some exciting, fast-paced action from the youngsters as each game consists of only five overs per side, with everyone but the keeper getting an over each to bowl. Wides and no-balls count as an automatic four runs, and the club expects scoring a-plenty. Each game will has been allocated an hour to be completed, and the plan is to run through the entire programme, including prize-giving by 5pm.
There will be the standard restaurant and pub fare laid on by Lords, and non-players can also follow both the Southern hemisphere international matches on the various screens at the venue. SA wil be doing battle with the All Blacks from 9am, and the Argentines take on Australia from noon onwards. There will be various other activities on offer too.
ACC plans to have two bowling machines humming away in the nets through the day for those brave enough to face a few fast balls. The success of the tournament depends as much on the support that the club receives as it does on the lads playing their hearts out on the field, and ACC would like to set a fine precedent and make this an annual event. In this event, the club will then of course start planning for a senior invitational sixes tournament too.
The club would also like to thank local business for the positive response it has had to its ‘sponsorship wall’ initiative. The majority of the panels have been snapped-up by various businesses in the community, and ACC is grateful for the kind support. Funding is always a sensitive issue, and the club is thankful for the support it has received thus far.
