Bester best vet in 65km Illovo Wartburg MTB Classic
A few dedicated roadies venture North to Sibaya to notch up 115km-plus for Cape Town Cycle Tour preparation, which takes place in early March.

ILLOVO Wartburg MTB Classic took place last Saturday and a contingent of 10 riders or so from Amanzimtoti Cycling Club ventured into the KZN Midlands to take part.
Some Mambas rode the 25km and a few souls braved the 65km.
The weather played along as, although it was hot, it was dry. The club’s best result came from Hendrik Bester who came first in the vets category in an impressive 2.29.29 time and sixth overall. This is a great achievement as the 65km course is very tough.
For the Mambas who did not race the Wartburg Classic, a club ride was organised at iNsingizi Game Lodge in Mid-Illovo. The ride started in thick mist, slightly muddy single track and cool conditions. The latter of which did not last too long.
iNsingizi has some of the best single track in KZN. After plenty of climbing that takes away a few riders’ breaths, the view from the top of the mountain takes everyone’s breath away because of the beauty. Apart from a bit of slipping and sliding and a broken handlebar, all riders finished with a smile on their faces. After a welcome shower, another scrumptious breakfast was enjoyed by all.
A few dedicated roadies venture North to Sibaya to notch up 115km-plus for Cape Town Cycle Tour preparation, which takes place in early March. It’s arguably the highlight of the road cycling calendar and many enthusiastic riders are eager to take to the Mother City’s scenic roads once again. The Cape Town Cycle Tour (formerly known as the Cape Argus Cycle Tour) will see cyclists from all over the globe take to the starting line on Hertzog Boulevard, to celebrate the race’s 40th anniversary.
