Four of Winkle SLC’s best make KZN lifesaving teams

The club said farewell to Jethro Grey as he departed for Dubai to do some lifesaving work there for the next year or two.

THE going has been really good over the past two weekends at Winklespruit Surf Lifesaving Club. Firstly members were away at Midmar with many providing safety to all those thousands of swimmers at the Midmar Mile.

By all accounts the weekend was thoroughly enjoyable even with the Saturday night storm that left the Techets thinking that someone had left the shower on in their tent.

Three nippers swam the mile so congratulations go to Jessica and Stephanie Erasmus as well as Jayson Ozorio.

Nipper training a fortnight ago was the best of the season, with the beach and sea fantastic at Winklespruit as the nippers prepared for the upcoming nipper championships. Unfortunately these were postponed. Parents are asked to watch the Whatsapp group closely for updated information on the revised dates of the competitions. Congratulations go to Kendell Deysel, Nino Krugel, Courtney Potgieter and Madison Thies on passing their nipper examinations.

This past weekend was quiet as the weather did not come to the party but that did not stop Holly Konig, Slater Rudling and Ruben Myburgh from passing their IRB exam under the guidance of Brad McCann.

Last but not least, the club is extremely proud of Gene Prato and Tyler Main for their selection to the KZN senior lifesaving team as well as Kelly Fell and Dana Erasmus for their selection to the KZN junior lifesaving team. Both teams will compete at interprovincials to be held in Cape Town at the beginning of April against the best lifesavers in South Africa.
