IN the first round of the women’s drawn pairs at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC), Lynn Joubert and Amanda Ninow beat Jackie Holdrick and Maureen Griffin; Elmarie Young and Linda McGregor defeated Nicky Stirzaker and Lesley Stephens- Viviers; Jeanette Els and Michelle Pitchers beat Julie Sutherland and Jacqui Fouché; and Marion Crouch and Talla Stephens-Viviers overcame Denise Bingham and Maggie Robertson.
Winners of the women’s trips were Vera Broskie, Julie Sutherland and Jacqui Fouché. Runners-up were Nita Meumann, Maureen Crawford and Debbie Gueffroy, with reserve Dawn Schauer; and the second session went to Jeanette Els, Sue Welch and Wilma Richter. Maureen Griffin won the 100 board.
Pete Shepard and Ian Shearer were the winners of the men’s Perfect Delivery 2-4-2; runners-up were Dallas Davis and Mark Brodie; and the second session was won by Graham Ellis and Barry Bush.
At TGIF Das Veldsman won the 100 board. George Glaves was not present when his membership number came up, so next week’s draw will be worth R400. Alec Stirzaker was also unlucky as his key did not open the box. Hence next week’s key draw will be worth R8,650.
The winners of Food Lovers’ Market mixed fours (Big Chicks) were Doreen Salmond, Alec Stirzaker, Dennis Hughes and Dallas Davis. Runners-up were Tony Cam, Ken Leech, Ian Mills and Elmarie Young; in third place were Greg McLeod, Lynn Joubert, Mike Pitchers and Doug Joubert. Second session was won by Coy Schrauwen, Keith Berry and Paul and Jeanette Els; the 13th prize sponsored by Brian Pascoe was won by Owen Turner, Paul Davies, Steve Woor and Jacqui Birch; and most bowls sponsored by Vince Marriott went to Alan McGregor, Brian Crause, Noreen Butler and Linda McGregor. Thanks to Dave Gardner for his organisation as well as bar and kitchen staff.
The first B20 night game will have taken place by the time this article is in print. If you missed out playing, remember this will go on for a further three consecutive Wednesday evenings, so add your name to the list on the board. The annual potjie day will take place on Monday, 1 May. Potjie chefs are needed and the list will be on the board soon.
The PN mixed pairs draw (Oppenheimer) is on the board. Good bowling to all the men and women playing Port Natal trips starting on Sunday, 26 March. Special good wishes go to Doreen Salmond and Barbara Beamson in the semis of the Port Natal senior singles on Saturday, 25 March at 1pm at the club. There will be men and women, seniors and open players vying for honours, so go along and watch top bowlers from the district in action. Qualified markers are still needed to help out.
The lone birthday boy this week is ABC president Alec Stirzaker, so special good wishes are sent to him. Good health and good bowling to all.
