CONGRATULATIONS to Amanzimtoti Bowling Club’s Robyn Hutton and Heather Cooper who came second overall in the Port Natal women’s pairs against Glenda Matthews and N Botha of Stella Park.

More congratulations go to Marietjie van den Bergh who took gold in both women’s singles and pairs while representing Namibia in the African States Bowls Tournament.

Well done to them all.

The mixed fours festival was a great success last weekend with 16 teams participating. Despite strong winds and threatening rain, all games were completed. Well done to the winning team of Vince Phaal, F Fourie, Kathy Cox and Adrienne Robbins; runners-up were Alfie Bingham, Eric Klopper, Denise Bingham and Leigh Callaghan with reserve Doreen Salmond; and in third place were Simon Schanij and his team from Umkomaas. There were five session prizes which went to the following skips and teams: John Hewgill, Linden Cooper, Herbie Hofmann, Leon van Rensburg and Glen Scorgie. Everyone went home with a prize, thanks to the generosity of all the sponsors. Thanks go to Alan McGregor, Ian McDonald and Brian Crause for their organisation and scoring.

Members are asked to diarise the SGM which is to be held on Saturday, 23 September. Registration and voting is from noon and the meeting is at 12.30pm. Voting is for key positions still to be filled. Your vote is important for the club’s future. Thereafter the monthly muttons competition takes place.

Keith West is organising Saturday morning practise sessions for novices and anyone who would like to improve their bowls, starting in October. If you wish to participate, add your name to the list on the board. This will not replace the regular Wednesday afternoon practises for everyone, run by Ian Crouch and Doreen Salmond.

At TGIF Lindon Smith won the 100 board. As Doreen Salmond was not in attendance, next week’s draw is worth R450. Jackie Holdrick had no luck in the key draw, so that will be worth R3,990 on Friday.

Birthday wishes are sent this week to Brian Diener, Babs Swart, Joe Tetluk, Innocent Sithole and Wessie van der Westhuizen.
