Military services to showcase their skills on the greens

All those participating in the champs belong to the military services such as the army, airforce, navy and medics.

AMANZIMTOTI Bowling Club will host the South African National Defense Force Bowls Championships next week and invites the community to join in and support the prestigious event.
The tournament will kick off on Sunday morning, 24 September and run until Thursday, 28 September.

This annual event has been happening for some 48 years. The champs were discontinued for many years but resumed in 1993 and have been regular highlights on the bowling calendar since. Every year they’re held at a different venue around the country.

“There will be five members per team, and each province enters one or two teams,” explained flight sergeant and organiser, Vincent Phaal. “These championships will see the country’s best bowlers compete for the winning title.”

The two KZN teams are sure to do their province proud. Bowlers include: C van Heerden, V Phaal, RJ Green, XN Pati, AM Fourie, C Smith, C van Niekerk, D Koekemoer, AT Walker and FS Spies.

All those participating in the champs belong to the military services such as the army, airforce, navy and medics.

A memorable opening ceremony will kick off the champs on Sunday morning at 9am and the community is invited to spectate on any of the days. Amanzimtoti Bowling Club’s bar will be open for refreshments but regrettably food won’t be served.
