Amanzimtoti fighters share spoils at grappling tourney
They both competed in the U70kg men’s division, which was the biggest and most advanced one.
Amanzimtoti mixed martial art (MMA) fighters, Bradley (20) and Dylan Swanepoel (18) fought their way to a joint first place at the National GroundQuest Grappling Tournament which was held in New Germany on Saturday, 4 August.
They both competed in the U70kg men’s division, which was the biggest and most advanced one with more than 15 competitors, including a number of EFC professional fighters, grappling champions, top level amateur MMA fighters and even an USA wrestling champion.
The boys demonstrated a very high level of Brazilian jiujitsu and wrestling skill, and fought their way through to the final where they had to face each other to fight for gold. “We made a family decision that the boys wouldn’t fight each other and so they got a combined first place,” said their father Morne, who is also their trainer and coach.
