Amanzimtoti High waterpolo team makes waves
Jeff attests the success to the dedication and hard work from learners and coaches alike.
Amanzimtoti High School’s (AHS) waterpolo team has been making waves after dominating in several school events recently. Exceptional waterpolo has been played by all of the school’s teams.
“It’s been pretty good this term and going into the round of games in the third term. We have a little bit of a break now, but we have had some exceptional results. We played against Scottburgh High boys and girls and AHS girls won 9-1 and the boys won 13-2. Durban Girls High School is one of the top waterpolo teams in the province and our school’s first team girls won a game against the 15-7. They played exceptional waterpolo. Our U16 girls also beat them 18-4 and U14 girls won 10-6,” said the director of sport at the school, Jeff Harper.
He said that the school’s waterpolo has come up in leaps and bounds.
“It’s looking really good. We recently played against Kloof High boys and girls and got incredible scores there as well. This was probably one of the best waterpolo games I’ve seen in a long time. The first team boys were 2-0 down in the first couple of minutes. I didn’t want them to lose the game since the girls had already performed well, but they ended up winning the game 20-4. Waterpolo has been our signature sport this term. Thankfully we were able to play and the learners have loved being back in the pool.”
Jeff attests the success to the dedication and hard work from learners and coaches alike.
“I think we have had a good core of girls coming through right from the juniors and we have incredible depth. Everyone is loving the sport at the moment. Success breeds success. The learners who started at the U14 level have now come through to the U15 and U16 level. We have high hopes for the future as well since a lot of the learners are in Grade 10 and 11 mostly. We have a dedicated coaching staff also and we are incredibly proud of all of them.”
