Amanzimtoti bowlers battle the weather in PNB trips competition

Showing that bowlers need to be fit, the first rounds of the Port Natal pairs will start on Sunday, September 5.

THE icy winds and rain over the weekend did not deter bowlers who took to the greens to play the Port Natal district men’s and women’s trips competition that took place at various clubs (including Amanzimtoti Bowling Club) throughout the district on August 28 and 29.

ABC entered seven men and six women teams, and also played host to 12 of the teams.

Thanks to the hard work of the organising team – Al McGregor, Mike Groom, Toni Roberts, Linden Cooper, Alec Stirzaker and the groundsmen. The event went smoothly despite the bad weather.

Playing any district competition is always challenging, but this time the weather was an extra hurdle to overcome. Of the 13 ABC teams that entered, three managed to win their sections after the three game round robin.

Congratulations to the teams of Linden Cooper, Ian Crouch and Steve Woor in the men’s division, and Susan Nel, Doreen Salmond and Marion Crouch with substitute Kathy Cox, and Delysia Mitchley, Leonie Mills and Leigh Callaghan in the women’s division. They will progress to the knock-out phases on Saturday, September 4.

Showing that bowlers need to be fit, the first rounds of the Port Natal pairs will start on Sunday, September 5.

Good bowling to the nine men and 11 women teams playing, two of which will be playing at ABC – Nicky Stirzaker and Jackie Holdrick, and Doug Joubert and John Mitchley.

There was a special 100 board at TGIF with prizes donated by Fred Rautenbach.

The winners were Vince Marriott, Robbie Roberts, Alec Nel, Mike Roberts, Kevin Lindsay and Crecia Allers, who was lucky enough to win two prizes.

Greg Veldtman’s name came out in both the attendance draw and the key draw.

Unfortunately, he was not able to find the right key for the box, but he was able to collect the attendance prize, so that will return to R100 for next week.

The key draw jackpot will be R6 530 with 21 keys to choose from.

Birthday greetings go to Steve Woor, Shane Wilkinson, Tokkie de Kock, Gert Richter, Brian Masters, Bobby Henderson, Nita Meumann and Elmarie Young.
