Bowlers enjoy play at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club
Amanzimtoti Bowling Club was delighted when two home teams took first and second place in the Pam Golding tournament.
IT’S been a long wait for the popular Pam Golding women’s tournament which attracts bowlers from as far away as Umhlali and Scottburgh to play at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club (ABC) annually.
The tournament was cancelled last year due to Covid-19 restrictions, so it was with extra joy that the 18 teams took to the greens on September 22 and 23.
Special thanks must go to the sponsors of the event – Pam Golding Properties Amanzimtoti, and its representatives Jacques van Schalkwyk and Sue Blount – who is also an ABC club member.
ABC was delighted when two home teams took first and second place in the Pam Golding tournament. Overall winners by a huge margin were the talented players Susan Nel, Nicky Stirzaker, Jackie Holdrick and Leigh Callaghan. They were followed by Doreen Salmond, Marion Crouch, Adrienne Robbins and Hilary Lindsay.
Sunday, September 26, saw another good turnout for the monthly men and women’s mutton 4’s. The winners in the women’s competition were Heather Cooper, country member Midge Calicchio, Talla Stephens-Viviers and playing in only her second competition – Zeldien Jackson. The team of Vera Broskie, Dawn Schauer, Sue Blount and Jacqui Birch were second, with the session prize going to Julie Sutherland, Tokkie de Kock, Elmarie Young and Cathy Badenhorst.
Combining years of experience, the winners of the men’s mutton were Ian Crouch, Phil Whitton, Lofty van Tonder and Barry Bush by a count out, putting Eric Klopper, Carl van Heerden, Vince Marriott and Martin Birch into second place. Alec Stirzaker, Mike Groom, Keith West and Mike Pitchers took home the session prize.
After the competition the members were treated to a braai and live music as a farewell to outgoing committee member Fred Rautenbach, and his wife, Jenny, who move to Cape Town this week.
The club will be closing two greens for spring maintenance during October, so numbers will be limited for the bigger games. See the club notice board for details.
Birthdays this week are Nicky Stirzaker, Philip Perkins and Ashley McIntyre.
