Amanzimtoti Cricket Club veterans secure the win

The veterans team clinched the win against Sheppie Legends in the first super-over of the tournament.

AMANZIMTOTI Cricket Club’s (ACC) veterans secured the win against Sheppie Legends during the sixth round of the KH T20 Winter League on June 11.

ACC Vets, who had nothing to lose, took on Sheppie Legends who needed a couple of victories in their remaining games to pull through to the semi-finals.

League official Yameen Godil said ACC Vets won the toss and put Sheppie Legends into bat.

“They posted a somewhat below-par 160 runs. In response, ACC Vets were very steady throughout the innings, only to self-destruct right at the end. They almost gave the game back to Sheppie Legends, needing 7 runs off 6 balls. It all came down to 1 off 1, and the game ended with a tie,” he said.

In the first super-over of the tournament, ACC Vets scored 10 runs off their 6 balls. “This restricted Sheppie Legends to 6, winning by 4 runs and causing a huge upset,” added Godil.

He said this now brings five teams into play for the remaining semi-final spots on the last day of the group stages this weekend.

ACC Vets take on Zikra Scorchers at home yesterday, June 17, and Warriors today, June 18, in Kloof.
