Amanzimtoti bodyboarders head to SA Championships

All four, whose favourite spot is Baggies Beach, will be representing southern KwaZulu-Natal in the event.

Johnny Friedman (16) will be taking part in the Juniors division. He has been bodyboarding for four and a half years and is taking on his second SA Champs. He aspires to make a name for himself and hopefully, one day, shape boards and make a difference.

His brother, Dean Friedman (14), will be taking part in the Boys’ division. He has also been bodyboarding for four and a half years, however, this will be his first time at SA Champs. His goal is to show others that even if you are small, you can pursue big dreams.

Tristan van Brandenburg (20) will be competing in the Pro division. He has been bodyboarding for about seven years, and his goal is to make it to the finals and show what it takes to compete with some of the best in the sport.

Johnny and Dean’s mother, Annelise Friedman, said she was proud of all the boys’ achievements. “They have worked hard for this opportunity. Their hope is to ride on the world tour soon and experience different waves, bodyboarding spots and locals. Any bit of sponsorship or donations toward this dream trip would be appreciated,” she said.
