Combat Coaching’s coach Morné Swanepoel, said athletes compete in either novice, intermediate and advanced divisions and within their respective weight classes. The event’s format is eliminations. To determine the winner, the novice division works off points and submissions, while the advanced division sees submissions only.

“The platform showcases the country’s top grappling talent,” he said.
Twelve of the gym’s athletes entered, with 10 medals (three gold, four silver and three bronze) being won. “Our children and adults did exceptionally well considering having to travel to Johannesburg to compete away from home,” said their coach.

Some of the gym’s upcoming events include coach Morné, who is also the technical director and head of strategic development at the Mixed Martial Arts Federation Mauritius (MMAFM), travelling to the country to host a seminar in January, while his professional fighter and son, Bradley, prepares for his EFC (Extreme Fighting Championship) bout in March.
