Hearts of Toti appeals for community support

Hearts of Toti currently feeds 45 families in the Amanzimtoti area and are in need of rice, sugar, mielie meal, pasta, soya, soup, tea, milk powder, juice, tinned goods, baby nappies and formula.

HEARTS of Toti are inundated with requests from families in need and desperately appeal to the community to help them so that they can help others.

The non-profit and charitable organisation assists community members who are going through hardships that have rendered them destitute and in need. Its volunteers hand out monthly food parcels to families in Amanzimtoti and surrounds, among many other initiatives.

Co-founder, Alta Erasmus, said every day they receive numerous requests for food. “These are from families living within our community; they are family, friends and neighbours. You never know what someone else is going through. We currently have 45 families on our list,” she said.

Although the big-hearted volunteers would love to help everyone, Erasmus said they can only help with what donations they receive. “Donations are few and far between. We have some loyal sponsors that donate regularly, and for that we are extremely grateful, however, we cannot feed so many families with just a handful of sponsors. We really need help,” she said.

Erasmus added that they are not necessarily asking for money, but rather food items. The biggest needs are rice, sugar, mielie meal, pasta, soya, soup, tea, milk powder, juice, tinned goods, baby nappies and formula.

Next month’s hampers will be handed out on May 7.
