Young karateka needs your support
The loving grandparents of a nine-year-old karate prodigy from Warner Beach are requesting support to keep her dreams within reach.

THE grandparents and guardians of a Warner Beach karate prodigy, Peyton Johnstone (9), have made sure their little girl’s talent is well developed as she continues to achieve unprecedented success at such a tender age.

This support, however, is not an easy feat to keep up with and they have started a BackaBuddy campaign to allow Peyton to keep improving and take on this year’s South African Japan Karate Association championships.
Grandfather, Russ Andraos, proudly said that Peyton, who attends Prescient Primary School, already boasts a slew of achievements in karate since 2022, with four gold medals in 2023 and two gold medals last year. Peyton was also the Amanzimtoti JKA Dojo’s karateka of the year for two years and has achieved her full colours for karate.
“She has achieved so much in such a short space and continues to strive every time she gets onto the mat to compete. Many of you have followed and supported her through the years, watching her grow in the karate arena. This could not have been possible without you. For us as her grandparents and guardians, putting her through school and ensuring that she is on the right path in life is not an easy one by any means. Getting her to compete at all these venues each year is a struggle to say the least but we do what we can to make sure that she can continue to strive and do her best at both the KZN and SA JKA Championships as she starts to make a name for herself within the association,” Russ proudly said.
He said that Peyton’s dream is to one day be a junior black belt and compete in Japan.
“It’s not easy to have to reach out for support, but the finances required are just out of our reach. We humbly ask for assistance to get Peyton to where she needs to compete. Your support is all part of her success,” he added.
