Amanzimtoti Cricket Club triumphs over Delta

Amanzimtoti Cricket Club claimed a vital bonus point victory against Delta Cricket Club in a KZN Castle Premier League match last Sunday.

THE Amanzimtoti Cricket Club’s (ACC) first team got the year off to a great start, claiming a crucial bonus point win over Delta Cricket Club’s first team in the seventh round of the KZN Castle Premier League on Sunday (January 19).

According to the club’s scribe, Peter Lonie, home side ACC won the toss and after electing to bat first, amassed 206/9 in their 50 overs. The side’s main contributors with the bat were Tylor Trenoweth (60), Luc Jacobs (53) and Gareth Lonie (27).

“Delta CC’s pursuit of 207 got off to a good start – ahead of the required run rate – but a fantastic direct hit run-out from Dillon Bryan slowed the visitors’ progress. Spin was introduced to good effect with Dylan Labuschagne (3/26), Jared Havemann (3/31) and Gareth Lonie (2/21) accounting for the next eight Delta wickets. Taine Havemann claimed the final wicket with Delta’s score on 155 handing ACC a 51-run win,” said Lonie.

While Delta CC got off to a good start, ACC’s lead was too much to overcome and the home side won by 51 runs.

This win sees ACC’s first team move up to second place in the KZN Castle Premier League – a mere three points behind Crusaders CC.
