Amanzimtoti parkrun now easier than ever
The Amanzimtoti parkrun will follow an easier route, cutting out most of the sandy section, making it more accessible for all runners and walkers.
AMANZIMTOTI parkrun, once infamous for its gruelling 2km stretch of beach sand, is about to get a whole lot friendlier.

From April 12, the event will follow a revamped route, cutting the dreaded sandy section down to just 700m. The start and finish lines have also been relocated to a grassy area on the promenade in front of Inyoni Rocks Cabanas, providing a smoother and more enjoyable experience for all runners and walkers.
Co-event director John Niewoudt said the change comes after months of public requests and negotiations.
“The new route is much more accessible and welcoming. We encourage more people to come and join in,” he said.
Amanzimtoti parkrun kicks off every Saturday at 08:00, covering a scenic 5km course. Older people who cannot run or walk are encouraged to volunteer as route marshals.
Niewoudt also gave a special thanks to co-event director Roy Baijnath, as well as Thyrza Price for their dedication.
