Jacqui takes over the reins at Toti GC

Lass Davis is the new vice-captain.

AT Amanzimtoti Golf Club (AGC), the women held their AGM on Saturday, and welcomed an almost completely new committee to the stage.

Jacqui Porrill takes over the reins as women captain while Lass Davis is the new vice-captain.

Treasurer is Brenda Morgan, with Sue Daniels taking over as handicap manager.

The secretarial duties stay with Cheryl Flutter for the year to come, and Ina de Boer is a welcome addition to the new-look committee as a general member.

Good luck to these women for the year ahead, and it will definitely be a busy one with Amanzimtoti set to host the KZNLGA inter-club championships and the club celebrating its centenary in 2014.

Very challenging times lie ahead for this committee and indeed for the incoming main club committee, which is still to be finalised at the AGM being held on Monday, 25 November at 5.30 in the club lounge.

The lists are up on the notice board for nominations for main club committee, and all members are urged to support the club by attending.

The women's section will also make a presentation on the planning for the inter-club championships to be held at Toti next year, and would appreciate as many members being there as possible, to offer assistance going forward.

The men sent a team to represent AGC in the KZNGA inter-club championships held down the coast last weekend.

Despite giving it their best shot, the team of Ronnie Nair, Tommy McNaughton and John van der Spuy did not make the matchplay stages of the competition. Better luck next year guys.

On Wednesday there were 26 players contesting the IPS competition. Mike Lawrence blew away the opposition with 43 points, Martin Rumbelow finished second on 41 points, and Colin Scorer came in with 40 points to take third prize.

The Friday competition was unfortunately cancelled to accommodate two groups on the day. This was sad for the regular players but hopefully good for the club’s coffers, so members shouldn’t be too upset about the cancellation.

Saturday’s competition for the men was a small affair with only 62 players.

The format was 4BBB medal, and the winners on a good 57 were the pairing of Peter Avellini and Hu Turnbull, with chairman Mike McGregor and Alan Brydon in second on 60. Third place was scooped up by Ian Bender and Mike Igesund on 62. Nearest the pin on the fourth was Ian Bender and G Rabie took nearest on the 15th hole. Peter Avellini finished off a highly successful outing by picking up the jackpot, and Alan Brydon lost out on the attendance prize by leaving before prize-giving.

The women played a three ball alliance. New captain Jacqui Porrill and her partner Estelle Binnekade, assisted by ‘ghost’ Liz Donald, took top honours on 81 points, with the team of Brenda Morgan, Wladzia Oliver and ‘genuine’ partner Liz Donald in second spot on 79 points.

There was only one two club which was scored by Delene Berry on the seventh hole.
