Novices are played on a round-robin basis, and several games took place last week.
THE men’s nominated pairs club final played to a conclusion at Amanzimtoti Bowling Club last weekend, and the honours go to the well experienced team of Ian Crouch and Lofty van Tonder, who beat Neil Oberholzer and Brian Crause.
In the men’s drawn pairs Lofty partnered with Colin Coetzee to beat Greg McLeod and Dennie Denysschen to progress to the next round.
In men’s drawn fours Duncan Wright, Ken Leech, Barry Buckland and Ben Venter lost to Don Saunders, Alf Bingham, Mike Roberts and Vish Studinski.
Novices are played on a round-robin basis, and several games took place last week. Phil Perkins defeated both Beni Chirkoot and Peter Snyman, with Peter also beating Beni in their game. Peter however lost to Mike Pitchers. Dave McMillan, who played both Ben Venter and Jeff van Belkum, unfortunately lost both games.
Tokkie de Kock and Talla Stephens-Viviers peeled no less than five times during their tense and exciting marathon novice game which lasted for 28 ends, with Talla eventually finishing the winner. Lee Jordan also put in a strong game to beat Gaynor Snyman, however Gaynor lost a very even game against Gaythri Ramklass, despite winning one more end than Gaythri.
John and Delysia Mitchley had a good win in their mixed nominated pairs game against Mike and Debbie Groom, as did Bobby Stewart and Jennifer Greenslade against Nita Meumann and Jean Snyman in the women’s nominated pairs. Finally, in the handicap singles Maxien Barnes lost to Barbara Beamson.
In monthly social games, Susan Erasmus, Denise Bingham and Charlotte Kohl won the women’s trips, with Julie Sutherland, Anntjie Boag and Marie van der Walt in second place. Jeanette Els, Sue Welch and Jeanette Clarence won the second session. The men’s 2-4-2 was won by Glen Scorgie and Peter Callaghan, with runners-up being Colin Coetzee and Dave Kemp. Second session was won by Dallas Davis and Mickey Roche.
The winning team in the Big Chicks competition on 4+32 was the team of Dallas Davis, Noreen Butler, Dennis Hughes and Eric Klopper. Marion Crouch, Bobby Stewart, Maureen and Hennie van der Poel were 2nd; Ian Crouch, Lofty van Tonder, Julie Sutherland and Mickey Roche 3rd; with Les John, Doug Walton, Ron Greenslade and Mardi Dovale 4th. First session went to Barbara Beamson, Jeanne Alexander, Brian Crouse and Adrienne Robbins, second session to Don Saunders, Dave Kemp, Bill Williams and Jacqui Fouché. In 13th place was Heather Brown, Bobby Henderson, Mike Pitchers and Lys McDonald, with most bowls going to the all novice team of Peter and Gaynor Snyman and Dudley and Sue Blount. The club’s thanks go to the sponsors Jerry Gertzen, Gladys Hughes and Brian Pascoe for the prizes which add to the fun of this game.
Remaining competitions are currently being carded, so bear in mind that the onus is on the players to check the board. Also, as it is the mutton on 27 July, skips are requested to advise the competition secretaries well in advance if their team is not available to play.
The exciting new key game with big prizes will start on 25 July, so make sure you have your tickets. Alf Bingham and Neil Oberholzer are also planning to start a darts competition, so contact them if you are interested in joining up. Birthday members this week are Jeannette Clarence, Herbie Hofmann, Malinki van der Westhuizen and Ian Scorgie.
Last but not least, ABC wishes good bowling to Barbara Beamson and Doreen Salmond when they compete in the Port Natal women’s senior masters, and also to Tokkie de Kock in the women’s open masters this coming weekend.
